Some basic tools are needed to paint a structural building. Primer and paint of course, but also, sprayers, rollers and paint brushes, primers, putty, steel wool and painter’s plastic.

For the best outcome on a painting project, these basic steps need to be followed by professional commercial painters:

Prepare and protect the surface to be painted – In the case of metal substrate, painters will use a wire brush to go over the surface with attention to affected areas. Pressure washing is sometimes required to complete a rough clean of the surface, if and when possible.  Soap and water are applied with painter’s rugs to do a final and complete cleaning.

Apply primer – To create a smooth base and ensure paint will stick to the substrate, priming is critical. Sometimes a two coats or paint primer are necessaire. Primers are applied with tools such as brushes or rollers. When the primer is dry and the original color covered properly by the paint primer, the surface is ready to be painted. Painters will use acrylic paint on metal surfaces as they provide better results and last longer. They will use water-based paints in most of the cases. Painting exterior walls or interior walls, flooring, or ceilings require different paint.

Commercial building repairs, maintenance and up-keep – Adequate planning is required for small or large projects. Painting projects is no foreign to this.  Professional painters will know what to do and how to plan and execute the project. A lot of technicians claim they can paint, but the truth is that painting and priming and staining require proper planning and know-how.
